Surya’s Maatraan gets the Kochadaiyaan edge

Surya’s Maatraan will now be the first Kollywood movie to employ performance capture technology. It can be recalled that Kochadaiyaan director Soundarya Rajinikanth did claim of her forthcoming Rajini offering to be the first, to make use of such advance mechanisms. Now a Chennai based VFX specialist named Srinivas Mohan has helped the Maatraan unit accomplish the task, early on.

Director KV Anand and Surya did make a trip to US working with the Hollywood’s Stan Winston Studios working on some of the shots. These were the same people who worked on all time hits like Jurassic Park, Terminator, the very recent Avatar and director Shankar’s Endhiran. Back in Chennai Maatraan Director KV Anand got in touch with VFX operator Srinivas Mohan who has managed to capture Surya’s facial expressions digitally. The photo above from the studio has the Maatraan hero being supervised with the help of an I-phone, which is sending the signals to a workstation. The footage captured will be processed and touched up to come out with some never-seen-before output in a Kollywood movie or for that matter Indian cinema.

Defiintely, a milestone achievement for the Maatraan unit.
