Actor Ramki, who debuted as hero in the late eighties with ‘Chinna Poovae Mella Pesu’, fell in love with actress Nirosha, his co-star in films such as ‘Sendhoora Poovae’, ‘Paravaigal Palavidham’, etc., and later married her. Half-sister of actress Radhika, Nirosha was a leading actress when she married Ramki. Some of her films include Maniratnam’s ‘Agni Natchathiram’ and Kamal Haasan’s ‘Soorasamhaaram’.
Ramki slowly went out of the limelight towards the late nineties. Nirosha starred in some television serials and in a few films, probably to sustain their livelihood. It is said that some time back, the couple secured loan to the tune of Rs.50 lakhs (in two instalments) from Corporation Bank for which they had to mortgage their property of a couple of apartments near Gemini fly-over.
The houses, with a total plinth area of 1,650 square feet, are now coming up for auction to be organized by the bank as the star couple are not in a position to repay the loan amount to take their property back from the custody of the bank.
The decision to conduct the auction follows many reminders and legal notice sent by the bank to the couple to pay the interest on the loan and the loan amount within a stipulated date. As the date has now passed with no payment appearing to be forthcoming from Ramki and Nirosha, the auction has become an inevitable option, sources at the bank said.
An official announcement towards this effect has been made, it was reported.
