Bollywood actress Sonali Bendre has decried the attitude of the present generation of actresses. “Today’s actresses strip at the drop of the hat; they seem to think that acting is nothing but skin-show. It’s because of these actresses that the standard of Indian cinema has come down by several notches in the past few years,” said Sonali in a hard-hitting criticism of Bollywood actresses.
Sonali, who was once a successful heroine, had acted against the triumvirate of Khans in Shah Rukh Khan, Aamir Khan, Salman Khan besides pairing up opposite heroes like Ajay Devgn and Sunil Shetty and was in the filed from the mid-nineties till the early-part of the last decade. She married actor-producer Goldie Behl and settled down in matrimony and has been staying away from films for some years now.
Heroine of Kathir’s Kaadhalar Dhinam and the Arjun-starrer Kannodu Kanbadhellaam, Sonali also did an ‘item number’ in Maniratnam’s highly successful Bombay. Mother of a 6-year old boy and still possessing an hourglass figure, Sonali was approached by many directors to play lead roles but she turned down all those offers. She took part in a reality show on television recently and answered queries about her comeback to films.
“Earlier too, actress had appeared glamorously….I too had done glamorous role but glamour shouldn’t be confused with looking vulgar and obscene. Today’s actresses don’t seem to keep the clothing to the bare minimum which looks very vulgar and this has had a telling effect on the quality of cinema…When the quality of heroines and cinema continue to nosedive, how can I align myself with it?” asked Sonali Bendre.
