Sivaji Ganesan’s epic re-release Karnan has struck the silver line. Featuring the Kollywood veteran as Karnan, it also has a noteworthy performance by N T Rama Rao as Lord Krishna. On a celebratory note, Sivaji fans had a special gathering at the AVM Rajeswari Theatre where the film has been doing good business.
The event organized by PRO Nikhil Murugan had many turning up in attendance. Y.Gee. Mahendraa, Nandakumar and Sridahar, who played the child artist in the movie were present as part of the celebrations. “Since it’s March 16th release , the response is overwhelming”, said one of the distributors at the event. The movie based on the mythological book Mahabaratha was digitally retouched to give it a modern appeal. Shanthi Chokkalingam of Divya Films took up the strenuous task to restore Karnan digitally, after observing a good demand, post the release of old Shivaji classics like ‘Pudhiya Paravai’ and ‘Gauravam’, filling up the halls. The original Karnan print that made it back in 1964, took 3 years to be touched up with DTS surround sound and a 2k screen resolution. Well it’s still a re-hit after 5 long decades, completing a 25 day run at theaters near you.
