Simbu and Amala Paul in Vetrimaran’s Vada Chennai

Simbu and Amala Paul in Vada Chennai

It’s now final. Vetrimaran, who directed the national award-winning film Aadukalam, will be making his next film starring not Dhanush but Simbu in the lead. The film which brings together Vetrimaran and Simbu for the first time has been named ‘Vada Chennai’ and is said to be a gangster flick, not dissimilar to Vetrimaran’s directorial debut Polladhavan which released a few years back.

After directing Dhanush in Polladhavan and Aadukalam, his first two films, Vetrimaran is moving away from the ‘Dhanush fold’ and would be directing Simbu in the film which also has a significant role for Rana Daggubati, a popular Telugu hero. Reports are abuzz that young and upcoming actress Amala Paul has been signed up to play the female lead in the film opposite Simbu. It may be worth mentioning here Amala walked out of Aishwarya Dhanush’s debut directorial venture 3, which has Dhanush in the lead role.

Andrea Jermaiah, the playback singer-turned-actress, would also be part of the cast and is likely to be paired up opposite Rana. In order to have a peaceful shooting schedule, Vetrimaran has reportedly conceived the script in a clever manner which would have almost equal roles for Andrea and Amala.

In fact, Andrea is said to have studied the script hard and put a pre-condition that her screen footage should not look inferior to that of Amala prior to signing along the dotted lines. As soon as Simbu is ready to release Osthe, his upcoming film, a remake of Bollywood blockbuster Dabangg the Unit is likely to start work on Vada Chennai.
