As Shriya Saran’s dry run in Tamil continues, she has pocketed a Sandalwood flick directed by Roopa Iyer. Shriya who has her parents looking for Mr.Right, has bagged a dream role in a Tamil-Kannada bilingual. She set screens on fire with the Rajapattai dance number with pal Reema Sen, following which she signed for her first lead Sandalwood offering.
Shriya pairs up opposite actor Ram for this bilingual release titled Chandra. “She plays a character called Maharani Ammanmani Chandravathy in the film,” says director Roopa Iyer. In fact it was Divya Spanadana who was to take up the role but was not convinced enough to sign on the dotted line. As a result it was Shriya who stepped in as her director confidently says, “Her role of a last generation princess and it fits her perfectly being a classically trained dancer to go with her stunning looks. I have done a lot of research on the lives of princess from Kodagu, Mysore, North India, Rajasthan and Hyderabad for this movie” P H K Doss handles cinematography and Gautham Srivatsava composes the scores for Chandra, partly to be shot in USA . There is also news that the actress had agreed to slash her remuneration, taking up the Sandalwood offering. Shriya also has Life is beautiful in Telugu and Deepa Mehta’s Hollywood film Midnight’s Children ready for release in 2012.
