Bollywood star Shahrukh Khan was named the worst actor and young heroine Sonam Kapoor the worst actress at the third annual Golden Kela Awards Saturday night, a spin-off of Hollywood’s Razzies awards, which recognises the worst in cinema.
The Golden Kela Awards are a satirical take on Bollywood that award the worst performances in Hindi cinema each year. The intention behind the Golden Kela is to ridicule the Hindi film stars and acknowledge the worst of Indian Cinema. The winners are selected each year by an online poll.
The third year of Golden Kela Awards hosted by Cyrus Broacha in Rockdome at Ambience Mall in Gurgoan was bigger than before as it received 7,35,697 votes for all the award categories.
To the utter surprise, the worst actor award (male) was awarded to Shahrukh Khan for ‘My Name Is Khan’ and the worst actor award (female) was bagged by Sonam Kapoor for ‘Aisha’.
If this wasn’t sufficient, Karan Johar’s ‘My Name Is Khan’ was acknowledged as the worst film.
The Worst Director went to Sanjay Leela Bhansali for ‘Guzaarish’.
The famous director Ram Gopal Varma was awarded the Bas Kijiye Bahut Ho Gaya Award (Please Stop Its Enough), asking him to stop making films.
B-town’s famed directors like Vishal Bhardwaj, Abhishek Chaubey (director of ‘Ishqiya’), Habib Faisal (Director of ‘Do Dooni Chaar’) and many more graced the award show and bared the criticism happily.
