Director Shankar has urged the members of the public to forget his earlier film Enthiran: The Robot for the time being and come to theatres in huge numbers to enjoy and support his latest directorial venture Nanban. The audio launch of the film, which stars Vijay, Jiiva, Srikanth, Ileana and Anuya, was held recently in Coimbatore.
Shankar’s Enthiran: The Robot which starred superstar Rajinikanth and Aishwarya in lead roles, not only broke many box-office records but ultimately turned out to be the most successful Indian film ever made. Shankar then moved ahead and completed Nanban, a remake of the Bollywood super-hit film 3 Idiots which starred Aamir Khan and Kareena Kapoor among others.
“We had been to Mumbai to shoot on the national highway but couldn’t get permission to shoot on that particular day. We cancelled the shoot and I went to a cinema hall to watch 3 Idiots. It was only then that the thought of remaking the film in Tamil occurred to me. After Rajini, Vijay comes across as a dedicated actor; even his detractors would love Vijay’s performance in the film.
“Sathyaraj refused my offer when I asked him to play villain in Sivaji: The Boss. He has, however, played the villain in Nanban. His performance is there for all of to watch and adore; he has proved that he’s truly a veteran actor.
“My appeal to the people is not to come to watch Nanban under the assumption that it would be another film like Enthiran. It won’t have any graphics sequences but would have a good script. For the time being, please forget Enthiran and come to the theatres to enjoy yourselves,” Shankar concluded.
