Santhanam plays the heroine’s friend in MUK, for a change?

Santhanam plays Amala Paul friend

Comedian Santhanam has a great chemistry with all the young and upcoming heroes. The comedian, who is making rapid strides in the industry, fits perfectly like a pair of gloves into the roles of the friend of the hero – be it Vijay, Ajith, Aarya, Shanthanu, Jiiva, Dhanush, Simbu or any other newcomer. With age on his side, Santhanam passes off as the hero’s friend quite easily.

His role in director Vijay’s latest flick Deivathirumagal, though, was somewhat different from his other films. In the film, he played a junior advocate practicing under a senior ‘advocate’ in the form of the stunning Anushka. The film not only had his usual witty one-liners but also gave him scope to display his acting prowess as well. The comedian is said to be having a great time now in Kollywood especially in the ‘absence’ of Vadivelu.

In the upcoming film Muppozhudhum Un Karpanaigal (MUK) staring Atharva and Amala Paul in the lead (the still photographs of the film released so far to the press are scorching, to say the least), Santhanam plays Amala’s friend and not Atharva’s. Readers might recall that the lanky Atharva, son of the late actor Murali, debuted as hero in Tamil films with last year’s Baana Kathadi.

MUK is produced by Elred Kumar who produced last year’s super-duper hit Vinnai Thaandi Varuvaaya starring Simbu and Trisha. Kumar has spent lavishly in producing the film so far and has canned the sequences in the U.S. in cities like New York and Las Vegas. Insiders say that the film is certainly a ‘big budget’ film considering that both Atharva and Amala Paul are relative newcomers in the industry.

The film has music by G.V. Prakash and has Shakthi as the cinematographer. “Usually, Santhanam plays the friend of the hero. In MUK, though, he plays Amala’s friend but would have his usual witty one-liners and much more,” says Kumar.
