The last time comedians Ganja Karuppu and Santhanam came together on-screen was for the film Arai Enn 305-il Kadavul produced by director Shankar. Directed by Simbudevan, the film did not click at the box-office. Prakashraj played the ‘Almighty’ in the film who comes down to earth to answer the prayers of two commoners, Santhanam and Ganja Karuppu. Santhanam even had a duet song along with Madhumita in the film.
After the film, Santhanam wisely decided that wouldn’t try to play any more lead roles. Instead, he returned back to being the hero’s friend, a role he has done umpteen number of times in his films so faro. He would once again be seen with Ganja Karuppu in an upcoming film titled Mirattal which is directed by R. Madesh. There is an interesting backdrop to the title Mirattal chosen by Madesh.
It turns out that Madesh wanted to keep the title of Thillu Mullu for the film he is making currently. After approaching veteran director K. Balachander formally and getting his permission to use the title of his super-hit film starring superstar Rajinikanth in the lead, Madesh was midway through the film when he was told by Kavithalaaya owned by KB that they didn’t want to part with the title.
Madesh was told that Kavaithalaaya was about to make a film with the same title. Apparently irked at the reversal of decision, Madesh chose the title Mirattal and went ahead and framed some sequences in the film to be resembling the mustache-less Rajini in the film Thillumullu. While he may be angry with Kavithalaaya for not letting him use the title of the Rajini-starrer, Madesh would do well to ensure that he doesn’t do anything to antagonize Rajini’s millions of fans in any way.
