Debutant director Santhakumar gave a very good account of his film-making abilities when he debuted as director with the film Maunaguru which released late last year. Starring Arulnidhi and Iniya in lead roles, the film was widely appreciated by the critics as well as the print and television media for the easy and practical manner it was made with no air of ‘filmy’ dialogues or sequences.
The film recently went past its 50 days of theatrical run and has been running slowly but steadily in most of the centres. Santhakumar doesn’t want to sit on the accolades that have come his way in the form of congratulatory messaes and texts on his mobile and wishes expressed by many in person.
That Santhakumar has managed to make a ‘clean film’ sans big stars and noted technicians is proof enough of his film-making abilities. He has now taken up the offer to make his second film for the banner Studio Green, owned by Gnanavel Raja, uncle of actors Suriya and Karthi and who has produced films like Prauthiveeran, Singam, Naal Mahaan Alla and Siruthai.
The as-yet-untitled film to be made by Santhakumar would get rolling once Gnanavel Raja releases his Karthi-Pranitha starrer Saguni in a few weeks’ time from now.
