Samantha Ruth Prabhu a.k.a. Samantha has been fast up the popularity radar. She debuted in Tamil films with a small role in ace director Gautham Menon’s super-hit venture Vinnai Thaandi Varuvaaya which had Simbu and Trisha playing the lead roles. Though hers was a brief role, it earned enough attention and sympathy from the audiences.

She then had her Baana Kathadi, her first full-legnth film in Tamil, releasing towards the fag end of the year 2010. She was paired up opposite a debutant hero in the film in the form of Atharva, the lanky star and son of the late ator Atharva. Samantha is now having her hands full in Kollywood and Tollowood with films under leading directors, who have proved their worth time and again.

Samantha plays the lead role in Menon’s Needhanae En Ponvasantham (NEP) opposite Jiiva. The film is made bilingual in Telugu too where Samantha is paired up opposite Naani. Naani is also her co-star in another bilingual film titled Naan Eee in Tamil (Eegaa is the name of the Telugu version). Besides the above, she plays the heroine in Maniratnam’s upcoming film Kadal opposite Gautham Karthick.

Talking about her growth as an actress in recent times, Samantha says “I have always been an ardent fan of actress Sridevi. It’s highly doubtful as to whether any other actress has performed roles a divergent as Sri did. However, I won’t opt for a married guy as my groom. Marriage has a long way to go and I’m sure I would only opt for a guy who hasn’t married already.

“Sri would always an inspiration for me. It’s amazing how she stayed on top in Bollywood for more than a decade. I’d sure love to emulate her as she’s my role model. Though I’d follow her style of acting and emoting, I’d surely not imitate her marital problems,” concludes Samantha.
