Finally, there is some relief around the corner for Alphonsa, the former ‘item girl’ of Tamil films. The actress, who lives separated from her husband with her 8-year old daughter, was involved in a ‘live-in’ relationship with dance choreographer Vinod Kumar till the latter committed suicide by hanging himself in the bedroom of their Virugambakkam residence three weeks ago.
Vinod’s family members cried foul and said that Alphonsa and her younger brother Robert (who is also a dance choreographer and a friend of Vinod) ‘conspired to kill Vinod’ and were trying their best to make it look like a case of suicide. The family went ahead and filed cases saying that they felt that there was something ‘suspicious’ in Vinod’s death and demanded further investigations.
Alphonsa, who had reportedly consumed overdose of sleeping pills on seeing Vinod hanging from the ceiling, was admitted to a hospital and was discharged after a few days. She then filed an anticipatory bail plea with the Sessions Court fearing her arrest in connection with investigations which were underway vis-à-vis Vinod’s suicide. When the Court quashed her petition, she approached the High Court of Madras for the bail.
When the case came up for hearing at the Court, the government counsel had informed that the police had filed a case ‘suspicious death’ in Vinod’s suicide case and informed the court that the names of neither Alphonsa nor Robert were included in the FIR. Following this, Alphonsa promptly wihdrew her petition seeking bail to pre-empt arrest in the case.
