In 2004, actress Reema Sen starred in a Bengali film titled ‘Iti Srikantha’ which reportedly had some ‘explicit’ sequences showing Reema indulge in some ‘skin show’. The title, if translated into English, would mean ‘Yours truly Srikantha’.
After seven years, the film is now to be dubbed into Tamil and released shortly. Reema has played a Temple danseuse in the film. The Censors have passed the Tamil version with an ‘A’ certificate apparently due to a ‘hot’ bedroom sequene featuring Reema. Obviously, Reema had no other go but to do the film at that time as she had to sustain herself in her native Bengali film industry.
Even established actresses have had their own share of glamour. Bollywood’s ageless wonder Rekha did the role of temptress to the hilt in Mira Nair’s ‘Kaamasutra’ and even Aishwarya Rai had to do a very ‘hot’ smooch with Hrithik Roshan in the film ‘Dhoom’. Nandita Das, who did a few films in Tamil, created a flutter by playing veteran Shabana Azmi’s lesbian partner in Deepa Mehta’s ‘Fire’ a decade back.
Reema is character in the film is so scripted that after enduring many ‘sexual tortures’ as a temple dancer, she quits the ‘post’ and returns to normal family life. At the time of starring in the ‘bedroom’ sequence (which necessitated an ‘A’ certificate from the Censors), Reema would hardly have visualized that she would make a career in Tamil and Telugu films.
Readers might recall that Reema’s last film in Tamil prior to ‘Ilavarasi’ was director Selvaraghavan’s ‘Aayirathil Oruvan’.
