Superstar Rajinikanth did have his primary schooling at Gavipuram Government Kannada Model Primary School in Kempe Gowda Nagar in Bangalore from 1954 to 1959. The building of the school, which has around 300 students as its total strength, is said to be in dilapidated state. The school neither has proper electricity connection nor drinking water facility. Even the toilets are running short of water supply, it is learnt.
The compound wall around the building might collapse at any moment, say locals. Though the Karnataka Government has allocated as many as Rs.86 lakh, the work for renovating the building is yet to start thanks to some ‘local politics’(not a penny has arrived. ).
In the meantime, acting on a request by Sewa Samiti, Karnataka, superstar Rajinikanth has agreed to donate Rs.25 lakhs for the school in which he studied for five years in his childhood. The amount would be sent the moment construction/renovation work starts, the superstar is said to have assured.
Murugan, leader of the Samiti, has asked the State Government to start the construction work by the New Year. “We have been celebrating Rajini’s birthday every year in a grand manner and are obviously delighted at the promise of assistance by the superstar. The amount given by him would be used to set up a new library for students as well as to purchase new computers for the students,” he said.
