Superstar Rajinikanth attended his first public event in almost six months when he took part in a function organized to present veteran film-maker S.P. Muthuraman with the Sankara Rathna award. For the record, Rajini has starred in as many as 25 films directed by S.P. Muthuraman (most of them super-duper hits), who is credited by many as the main force behind giving the ‘angry young man’ image to Rajinikanth early in his career.
The event was held at the AVM Rajeswsari Thirumana Mandapam in Chennai. Rajini made a dramatic entry and to a thunderous applause from those gathered. Not many expected that Rajini would make it to the event. Clad in a pair of blue denims and his trademark white shirt, Rajini looked very active, energetic and happy. His arrival and his usual style of covering the ground with rapid strides sent the crowd into ecstasy. The event was also attended by K Balachander,Khushboo, Visu,RM Veerappan and many popular personalities.
Speaking on the occasion, Rajini made an announcement that will make his fans go wild, he has no plans of retiring from films any time soon. He said that “Muthuraman Sir got in touch with me a few days back and asked me to attend this function. He added that even if I’m not able to make it to the event, I should at least send a congratulatory message which would be read on stage. I immediately agreed to his suggestion and hung up. I then did some serious thinking.
“I had to star taking part in functions and decided that there couldn’t have been a more important function than one honouring SPM Sir whose contribution in making me a star was immense. I earnestly feel that only I was able to recover in quick time only because of my fans’ love and affection and their prayers. This stage has many doyens who had helped my ascendancy in the film industry; I shouldn’t be talking a lot in front of them.
“Only because of the affection and respect I had for him, I starred in 25 films under SPM. Many of my friends within and outside the industry egg me on to continue to star in films. I’m not a Sivaji or Kamal Haasan and I can’t reach the dizzying heights they have reached in the filed of acting and can only perform the role of a hero. I shall, however, continue to act in films as long as the speed (which remains my main investment till date) in my movements is there,” concluded the superstar.
