Bollywood’s evergreen romantic hero Dev Anand breathed his last on December 4th, 2011 after suffering a heart attack in London, aged 88. An icon for those who grew up on his movies back in the 60’s, would be the first ones to agree, there was more to Dev than those silver screen looks. His zest for life, keeping a positive outlook even at his later years and his chirpy way of saying things amazed them even more.
On hearing the sad news about his cardiac arrest, fans and friends from the cine circles offered their condolences with Kollywood heroes Kamal Haasan and Rajinikanth sharing some wonderful moments they spent with the Bollywood idol. Rajinikanth said, “Devanandji… We had the proud privilege of taking your blessings, shaking hands and giving you a hug as we humbly offered ‘The Legend’ award to you two years ago. You will always stay in our hearts.” Actor Kamal Haasan too shared his sentiments saying, “When I came to know that Dev Anand passed away I felt my happiness had gone. I would say Dev died young. He was always a bubbly actor with great energy. Dev proved that retirement is death, working till his last days.” He also said that Dev wanted him to act in a movie on cricket but somehow things never worked out.
Devji, thanks for gifting us with those wonderful moments that would forever remain.R.I.P
