Superstar Rajinikanth turned 62 yesterday amid wishes from his millions of fans all over the world, his family, friends and his colleagues in the Tamil film industry and other film industries as well. Politicians, VIPs, socialites and even sportspersons made it a point to call up Rajini on the eve of his birthday to wish him a happy birthday.
This year is a ‘special’ one for all the fans and well-wishers of Rajini as the ‘man of the masses’ has survived a prolonged illness in the first-half of the year by getting treated at Singapore’s Mount Elizabeth Hospital. The fans believe that their matinee idol has been given a ‘rebirth’ by the Almighty and have made their happiness well-known on the special day which marked the first birthday after the superstar recovered from his illness.
A huge birthday celebration is being organized today at Chennai’s Valluvar Kottam, situated at the junction of T. Nagar and Nungambakkam. Though many fans are expected to throng the venue to catch a glimpse of their favourite star, it is informed that only 5,000 fans would congregate at the venue today. A large posse of policemen has been made to stand guard at the venue till the function is over.
Organized by Ramadoss, Suriya and Ravi who are office-bearers of the presidium of Rajini Fans’ Club, the function is likely to witness the participation of many Kollywood veterans including Rajini’s mentor S.P. Muthuraman, producer ‘Kalaipuli’ Thaanu and actor Vijayakumar, who is also a close friend of the superstar. Film-maker T.G. Thiagarajan, actors Senthil, Raghava Lawrence, Vasu Vikram, Chinni Jayanth and Karunas are also to be present on the occasion.
Vijay TV’s popular anchor Sivakarthikeyan would be hosting the event which would also feature a dance troupe dancing to Rajini’s popular numbers. To commemorate the star’s 62nd birthday, 62 school students would be provided educational assistance. Security at the venue has been beefed up as it is rumoured that Rajinikanth is most likely to make it to the event.
