Superstar Rajinikanth’s upcoming film ‘Rana’ was launched at AVM Pillaiyar Kovil inside the AVM studios in the city at the auspicious time yesterday. Rajini, Deepika Padukone, director K.S. Ravikumar, Rajini’s mentor and director K. Balachander, Sathya Movies’ Raama Veerappan, Rajini’s daughter Soundarya and many others took part in the launch of the period-type film.
No journalist was allowed to enter the premises and the technicians involved in the film were only allowed on displaying the ‘access cards’ distributed to them by Ravikumar.
Bollywood’s Deepika Padukone had been signed up as Rajini’s sole heroine in the film, which was to have two more heroines opposite the other two ‘Rajinis’ in the film. The names of the two actresses has been revealed by the crew on the eve of the launch of the film: while Telugu hottie Ileana would pair up opposite the ‘young’ Rajini, the talented Tabu would pair up opposite the ‘older’ Rajini.
Besides the above-said actresses, three other prominent heroines are to be chosen, including the one who would play Rajini’s younger sister in the film.
“The film would cater to all the needs and expectations of the legions of fans of Rajini Sir. I have built up on a one-line story narrated to me by Rajini. The script is quite powerful and the heroines’ role would not be insignificant as they too have a strong screen presence. The film would be made in such a manner as to make all those associated with the film feel proud of their work,” sums up Ravikumar.
