Superstar Rajinikanth has gone ahead and recorded another song in his voice. This is the second time in less than a fortnight that the star has got behind the mike to record a song. A couple of weeks ago, he recorded a song in AR Rahman’s music for the Tamil version of Kochadaiyaan. After P. Vasu’s Mannan in which he sang a duet with the legendary S. Janaki, Rajini has always resisted offers from directors to sing in films.
However, for Kochadaiyaan which also marks the directorial debut of his younger daughter Soundarya, Rajini decided to lend his voice to a song which was recorded some time back in the presence of A.R. Rahman. Rajini had been to London to shoot for the first schedule of the film, which is made in 3-D animation form, before returning to Chennai early this week.
Rajini has consciously avoided lending his voice to his own characters in many of his films which have been dubbed in Hindi. Even his super-hit film Baasha, which would be releasing soon in Hindi in the dubbed version, Mumbai-based Gautham has dubbed for Rajini. In this backdrop, the fact that Rajini decided to sing the same song for the Hindi version too was a great surprise to Rahman as well as the star’s millions of fans.
The Hindi lyric has been penned by Irshad. Though it’s a philosophical song, it’s not the actual translation of the corresponding number in the Tamil version but is borne out of Irshad’s own imagination. Rajini was initially apprehensive in pronouncing the many Urdu words in the song but then went through the lines and completed the recording in just one take!
