Superstar Rajinikanth took part in the function held in the city yesterday to honour noted author S. Ramakrishnan for winning the ‘Iyal’ award from the Govt. of Cananda. The function was organized by Uyir Mai publications. Rajini, who started speaking cautiously, was soon into his elements and delivered a fairly lengthy speech (containing some of his ‘short stories’) and enthralled the audience.

During the course of his speech, Rajini also touched upon the ‘atheist’ tendency which the late and legendary lyricist Kannadasan had reportedly possessed very early in his illustrious career. From the reaction of the audience, it was clearly evident that the incident narrated by the superstar from the life of Kannadasan hadn’t been known to many of them.
“Once Kannadasan was an atheist and at some point of time, he tried to burn a copy of Ramayana penned by Poet Kamban. He had kerosene, match-box in his one hand and a copy of the book on the other hand. Just as he was about to light the match-stick, he wanted to go through the book to find out what it actually possessed. After finished reading the book thoroughly, he paid obeisance to the book and abandoned attempts to burn it.
“That changed Kannadasan’s life who became a theist and penned many lyrics singing the glory of the Almighty. Words and letters are so powerful that they can make a lasting impression on a person’s long-held thoughts. It’s, therefore, imperative on our part to keep the creators who produce such words and verses happy. If we do so, they would continue to perform many achievements,” concluded Rajini and expressed his heartfelt appreciation to Ramakrishnan for winning the honour.
