The latest speculation in Kollywood is whether or not superstar Rajinikanth would agree to the offer to play the famed Tipu Sultan, often referred to the ‘Tiger of Mysore’, in a new biopic planned by film produced Ashok Kheny.
Industrialist and film-producer Ashok, who made the Arjun-starrer Prasad (Kannada film) some time back, is said to be seriously thinking of making a biopic on the epic warrior king Tipu Sultan. It’s an ambitious project for Kheny, a Bangalorean politician as well as a wealthy businessman, who wants his Tipu Sultan to be as grand as the late Richard Attenborough’s Gandhi.
When contacted, Kheny confirmed that he was indeed in talks with Rajinikanth in an attempt to convince the latter to play the title role in Tipu Sultan. It turns out that Kheny had spoken about this issue with Rajini in the past but couldn’t continue the talks as Rajini took ill and had to be rushed to Singapore for treatment.
“The world is not fully aware of Tipu’s many great traits who had gifted many items to many countries. If Rajini plays the lead role in the film, the film’s reach would be unimaginable. It gives me an exciting feeling and I’m trying my best to convince Rajini as my objective is to let the whole world know a lot about one of India’s greatest rulers of all times,” Kheny said.
