Films have been a great passion with the movie-hungry Indian audiences and the Indian film industry thrives basically on this passion as films made in huge numbers each year in languages such as Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam Hindi, Marathi, Bengali, Oriya and Bhojpuri. The South Indian Chamber of Commerce & Industries (SICCI) is planning a grand celebration next month in Chennai.
Chennai has been chosen as the venue because it was in Chennai where almost all the language films were shot before film industry spread to other cities such as Hyderabad and Mumbai. As such, Chennai holds a special place in many veterans in various languages. Kalyan, president of SICCI, says “We wanted the centenary celebrations to be launched in Chennai and are hosting the 3-day event from 26-28 April.
“A workshop regarding film-making will kick start the function. The evenings would be full of dance and music recitals and other events aimed to entertain the audiences. The final day would witness the presence of almost all the important persons who make up the Indian cinema. We are planning to host the event at the Nehru Indoor Stadium in Chennai.
“We would soon meet the chief minister of Tamil Nadu, and request her to complete the renovation work at the Nehru Stadium to be completed in time, which would of great help for as to hold the function,” he concluded and hinted that popular stars from other languages are likely to take part in the event.
