Rajini dissociates himself with reports about 3’s no-show

Rajinikanth Letter

Superstar Rajinikanth has issued a handwritten letter to the effect that the reports that have been appearing in sections of the press for the two days about the business of the film 3 were totally untrue. Starring Rajini’s son-in-law Dhanush and Kamal Haasan’s daughter Shruti Haasan in the lead, 3 released three weeks ago. Thanks to the popular Why this Kolaveri Di.. number, the film was dubbed and released in Telugu too.

Natty Kumar, who distributed the film in its Telugu version, complainted that he had suffered losses to the tune of Rs.3-4 crores as the flm didn’t do well in Andhra Pradesh. Kumar blamed Dhanush and Aishwarya, his wife and debutant director of the film, for the film’s no-show and said that the couple had promised to be in Hyderabad on the eve of the film’s release and disappointed him by staying away.

Reports said that Rajini stepped into the issue to bail out his daughter and son-in-law by agreeing to reimburse to Natty Kumar the losses suffered by him. However, in a signed statement, the superstar has refused that he made any such offer. “I have nothing to do with the reports involving me vis-à-vis the business/box-office showing of the film 3 directed by my daughter Aishwarya and starring Dhanush and Shruti in the lead.

“I would like to categorically make it clear that I have nothing to do with the performance of the film in theatres. I appeal to distributors and exhibitors not to be taken away by such false reports linking me with the film’s showing in theatres. This is my request to them,” Rajini’s statement said.
