Recently during his world tour A R Rahman who is in South Africa celebrated the 150th anniversary of the arrival of the first contracted Indians in the country.
He shared stage with a huge troupe of singers and dancers merrily joining in for a peppy song and dance performance.
Apart from the peppy number patriotic songs also shared an important space in the concert.
As Rahman announced that the song ‘Ye Desh’ is for the Indian population that resided there, he got a huge applause and screams of happiness in response.
One more song was to highlight the occasion it’s was preceded by a special mention where Rahman went on to say,
‘I want to thank you all. Some people said South African audiences are separated into Hindi, Tamil and Telugu; you have shown that you are all one.’
The song was Khwaja Mere Khwaja from the film Jodhaa Akbar, a huge crowd puller.
