Choreographer-actor-director Prabhudeva and his wife Ramlath aka Latha appeared before a family court in connection with their divorce case on Saturday(June 2) when their petition, seeking divorce by mutual consent, came up for hearing before additional Family Court Judge Pandian.
The estranged couple were to finalise their divorce on June 30 in Chennai, however both of them did not turn up in court and the Judge had postponed the case to July 10th. On Saturday, quite unexpectedly, Prabhudeva appeared in the court along with Latha and submitted all the settlement related documents. Prabhudeva kept looking sad while his estranged wife Ramlath was looking relaxed and happy.
According to Senior Advocate P Anandan, counsel for Ramlath, Prabhudeva submitted all the documents related to the alimony settlement for Ramlath, such as the property documents of his sea side villa at Injambakkam, a bungalow in upmarket Anna Nagar along with three flats and a property in Hyderabad and two cars. The total market value of these assets is estimated to be between Rs 25-30 cr.
He has also agreed to pay a one-time alimony of Rs 10 Lakh to Ramlath, besides bearing their medical and educational expenses till they complete their higher education. He was at liberty to access the two children whenever he pleased.
The settlement is being heralded as a pretty big one for India. The judge recorded the evidence and posted the case to July 7 for judgment.
Prabhudeva and Nayanthara, who planned to tie the knot in the latter half of this year, might have to wait for some more time, till Prabhu’s divorce with his wife Ramlath comes through.
Meanwhile, sources close to Nayan, the ex-glam queen of the south, say that, having waited for so long, a fortnight’s further delay is no big deal for the demure girl who has been maintaining a stoic silence of late.
