Actress Poonam Bajwa debuted opposite Bharath in ‘Seval’ directed by Hari more than three years back. The film apparently didn’t do as well as expected at the box office and she had to wait for some more time before tasting success at the box-office with the film ‘Thenavattu’ opposite Jiiva. She has done a few more films down the line but all the roles have been a bit stereotypical.
In the short span of time, she has played the shy, girl-next-door kind of roles more frequently. As such, Poonam badly wants a change of image for her. Instead of being seen as an actress who appears in deglamourised and almost insignificant roles, she wants to be ‘seriously’ taken as an actress in the industry and by the movie-goers.
Some time back, the actress did a photo-shoot posing ultra-glamourously for many photos, which are available on the net(Poonam Bajwa Hot Stills). Those photos have become one of the most-surfed in recent times, she claims. “I feel I have done enough of dumb girl roles and did the photo-shoot just for a ‘change’. I have now got offers to act in all the four South Indian language films.
“Nowadays, it’s not just enough if an actress looks pretty; she also has to have that unmistakable glamour quotient if she is to survive longer. She is over the moon about the fact that her debut Malayalam film ‘China Town’ opposite Jayaram has turned out to be a hit film. I also play a meaningful role in Ethiri Enn 3 opposite Srikanth where I get to wear glamourous and western clothes,” says Poonam.
The Punjabi girl, though, has no intention of trying out her luck at Bollywood for the present and says she’s very happy with the kind of film offers that she is getting in the South.
