Cinematographer-director-actor Thangar Bachchan’s ‘Azhagi’ was in many ways a trend-setter. The film showed the brewing of love between teenagers in the most practical manner. It was one of those rare films which was appreciated by the classed and the masses equally. ‘Maestro’ Ilaiyaraaja’s musical score contributed in no small measure to the box-office success of the film.
Almost a decade after the film, Parthiban is now itching to make a sequel to it. The actor-director-poet that he is, Parthiban surprised many with his dramatic portrayal of a Chola King in Selvaraghavan’s ‘Aayirthil Oruvan’. The script of the film, which was exploratory in nature, went back in time where Parthiban got the opportunity to play the role of his life.
After a long hiatus, Parthiban is all set to return to the silver screen as a director. His upcoming film ‘Vithagan’, where he plays a tough cop ahd has roped in upcoming actress Poorna as his heroine, has been directed and produced by him. Of late, Parthiban appears to have reduce his work to a large extent. He has, though, played a small role in ‘Ambuli’, a 3-D film. He has also completed playing the lead role in a Malayalam film.
Parthiban reportedly had a chat with Nandita Das, the Azhagi who played the heroine in ‘Azhagi’. Nandita Das, busy with her prior commitments, has asked Parthiban to wait for some months so that she would be completing her pending assignments. In all likelihood, the sequel to ‘Azhagi’ might start rolling by the end of this year!
