The audio-launch of director Pandiraj’s upcoming film Marina is to be held in Chennai today. Befitting the film’s title, the event would be held on the sands of the sprawling Marina Beach in the city. Deviating from the unwritten rule of holding audio launches in the evenings, Pandiraj is hosting the event early in the morning at a time when morning walker and joggers would be busy at the Marina.
The diminutive Pandiraj made heads turn in Kollywood with his debut venture in Tamil titled Pasanga which dealt deep into the psyche of students and the atmosphere they ought to be brought up at their respective homes. Released in May, 2009 sans any big star worth his/her name, the film won national awards in 3 categories including the ‘best child artist’ award for the duo Kishore and Sriram, ‘best dialogue’ for Pandiraj and the ‘best feature film in Tamil’ when the awards were announced in 2010.
He followed it up with Vamsam, another village subject starring Arulnidhi and Sunaina in 2010. Last year, he floated his own production house named Pasanga Productions and produced the film Marina and directed it. The film has popular Vijay TV reality show host Sivakarthikeyan debuting as hero opposite Oviya of Kalavaani fame. Though Siva plays an important role in the Dhanush starrer 3 too, it’s Marina which marks his debut as hero.
The script has been set in the backdrop of Marina and the beach which serves as the place of ‘work’ for many little boys who sell various kinds of eatables criss-crossing the sands with their bare-feet. As such, the director thought it fit to hold the audio launch on the beach this morning. Many leading Kollywood luminaries are expected to take part in the event.
Pandiraj has informed in writing that the event would be preceded by a ‘Clean the Marina’ campaign in order to raise awareness among the members of the public about the need to keep the Marina and our surrounds neat and clean.
