Pakistani Veena to essay ‘Silk’ Smitha’s role in Kannada film

Sexy Veena Malik, the Pakistani actress who has made India her home, is all set to play the lead role of the late ‘Silk’ Smitha in the Kannada remake version of the Bollywood super-hit film The Dirty Picture directed by Milan Luthria which had the Palakkad-born Vidya Balan essaying the lead role and winning the coveted national award for ‘best actress’.

Known for super-sexy image and some controversial topless pictures, Veena is said to be an ideal bet to portray the life of Smitha, who was Kollywood’s eternal ‘item girl’ till she committed suicide in the mid-nineties. Titled as The Dirty Picture: Silk Hot Maha, the film will be directed by Trishul. He said that he had been trying to cast Veena for the past 4-5 months but could confirm her call-sheets for the film only recently.

“The Hindi version didn’t narrate Smitha’s life as it was….I plan to incorporate the many things which were sadly missing in the Hindi version. At the height of Smitha’s popularity in the eighties, a half-eaten apple by her was sold at an auction for more than Rs.1 lakhs. She also had a high ego that she was always above her heroes, irrespective of the status of the hero. We would try to portray ‘Silk’ in a more realistic manner.

“Veena was sentimentally stumped on hearing Smitha’s story and cried out loud. She would be paid Re.1 crore for the film for which she has agreed be don a two-piece swimming costume besides starring in a few lip-lock sequences. She would also be dubbing in her own voice for her character in the film. Akshay, my son, would play a significant role in the film,” said Trishul.
