After many vain attempts to prove himself as a hero in movies, it appears that Sundar C has finally decided that directing films and not acting is his forte. The director, who has given some memorable films like Ullathai Allithaa, Rajini’s Arunachalam and Kamal’s Anbae Sivam, is taking up the cudgels of direction after a long time.
Oviya, who impressed many with her impressive performance in director Sargunam’s Kalavaani las year, has been cast as the heroine in the film, which has been tentatively titled as Masala Café. After appearing briefly in the Kamal-Trisha starrer Manmadhan Ambu late last year, Oviya has a handful of films now including Marina opposite VJ Sivakarthikeyan and directed by Pandiraj of Pasanga fame.
Oviya appears to be preferring comedy roles which make the audience giggle and laugh out, forgetting their worries. Talking about her character in Marina, Oviya says that “I play a typical city girl’s role in the film which is a funny, lovable character. Along with Sivakarthikeyan, I’d also try my best to tickle the funny bones of the audience. I have also signed up Sundar C’s Masala Café.
“It’s a film where I play a naïve girl’s character. Typical of Sundar’s many films, the main thrust has been given to comic elements. Sundar’s trade-mark comedy is bound to impress the audience. Khushboo Madam is producing the film along with another corporate firm, the shooting of which is to commence shortly,” concludes Oviya.
Last heard, unconfirmed sources insist that actress Anjali (who paired up opposite Sundar C in Ayudham Seivom a few years back) is also part of the cast.
