The 83rd Academy Awards (The Oscars) ceremony was held at the Kodak Theatre in Hollywood on February 28th, 2011. The air was filled with a sense of pride for every Indian glued to their television sets this early morning and the reason was just one man – AR Rahman.
The maestro was nominated for the Best Original Score and Best Original Song (“If I Rise”) for Danny Boyle’s “127 Hours” ,but this was not Rahman’s year as he missed out on both the categories. The Original Score Oscar award went to Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross for the movie Social Network while the Best Original Song was awarded to Randy Newman for the song ‘We Belong Together’ for the animation flick Toy Story 3.
Spirits soared high when Rahman appeared in a classic Corneliani tuxedo alongside the beautiful Florence Welch to present a wonderful rendition of the Oscar nominated song ‘If I Rise’ to a packed hall glittering with the presence of A-list Hollywood celebrities.
It maybe a double miss this time but surely we can look forward to the 2012 Oscars, who knows Rahman might bag a triple Oscar next time with his ‘Take it Easy’ policy.
