Ace director Gautham Vasudev Menon has the habit of naming his films in pure Tamil words with no mix of English words. He has been steadfastly sticking to this habit right from his debut film in Minnalae which released more than a decade ago. Menon’s latest offering is Neethaanee En Ponvasantham (NEP) which has Jiiva and Samantha playing lead roles.
For NEP, Maestro Ilaiyaraaja joins hands for the first time with Menon. The songs by the Maestro have created great excitement among movie-buffs and music lovers. The film’s teaser, which was received on the Net more than a month back, received record number of hits/downloads. The much-awaited music launch of the film was held in Chennai on 1st September.
The film has once again proved that it’s the most-eagerly awaited film by movie-goers as well as fans of the lead actoress and Maestro Ilaiyaraaja. Ajith’s Billa-2 had till now held the record for maximum number of hits online who watched the film’s trailer with interest. As many as 5.15 lakh hits were recorded in just a couple of days of the release of the trailer of the film, which didn’t have a great run in theatres when released later.
NEP has clearly overtaken the record held by Billa-2: a rough estimate puts the number of people who have watched the trailer of NEP on the net as 7.03 lakhs in the first 48 hours of the release of the film’s trailer on the net. The 165-second long trailer does give enough insights as to what could be anticipated in the film whose songs are already topping the musical charts.
