The basic rules of filmmaking in Kollywood have changed; big heroes are thinking out of the box and trying their best to make their films hit right away; we are talking about the emerging trend Multi-starred films.
Let us start off with the latest films which are in making/pre production stage.A recent dual hero film in the making that has definitely captured the attention of the movie buffs is ‘Avan Ivan’ which is directed by National Award Winner Bala with Arya and Vishal in the lead roles.
Ultimate star Ajith will be seen sharing screen space with Telugu industry King/Manmathudu Nagarjuna in the new film ‘Mangatha’ being directed by Venkat Prabhu. Even Silambarasan is starring in Telugu film vedam remake Vaanam a multi-starer, with Bharath and Anushka.
Definitely these changes have turned a new leaf in the contemporary Tamil cinema. Even biggies like Sarath Kumar, Arya have recommended multi starred films to bring back the people to theatres.
Venkat Prabhu, who is the director of Ajiths ‘Mangatha’ says , “I have to hit the bull’s eye with the opening show and bring audiences to the theatres with something new and different. That’s why I’m trying out a multi-starrer. What matters most is a fantastic opening and positive talk and for that, you have to go for fresh ideas and presentation within the commercial format”
Dont forget Ilayathalapathy Vijay is also in strong contention for the 3 idiots remake, likely to be directed by Shankar
Multi-starred films are like multiplexes and multi cuisine restaurants. While multiplexes do much business than single shop, will multi-starred films do bring more audiences to theatres? Need to wait and watch.
