Mollywood sets attacked over Dam issue

Malayalam movie sets attacked by protestors over Dam 999 issue

The Mullai Periyar Dam issue continues to create unwanted riffs between the two neighboring states of Tamil Nadu and Kerala. It all started with the Dubai based Sohan Roy bringing forth the collapse of the century-old Mullaiperiyar Dam through his film Dam 999.The movie has stirred controversy ever since.

Recently it was actress Asin who took a lot of flack from the Hindu Makkal Katchi (HMK) outfit over the strained relationships between the two states. HMK even claimed to go on protest if by any chance the Kerala born actress is chosen to star opposite Rajini in his forthcoming movie Kochadaiyaan. Now actress Padma Priya and Pasupathy are the latest to be blacklisted. The two play lead pair in the upcoming Malayalam flick “Bus Number 66 Madurai”. The shooting for this movie was going on in Nellai when protestors raised havoc at the sets forcing the unit to wrap up the shoots. The crew was forced to vacate the area and return back to Kerala. Director M.A. Nishad and his unit are now thinking of completing the rest of the schedule in Kerala itself, keeping safe from any attacks and avoiding any further tension.

We pray that things return back to normal soon, with a decision on the Dam problem awaited soon.
