The draw for the official entry to the Golden Oscars has finally come to an end. While many waited for the results with dripping foreheads the final judgment comes as a surprise with the Malayalam movie Adaminte Makan Abu being declared to do the honors internationally. The Mollywood flick Adaminte Makan Abu has been interestingly scripted by debutant Salim Ahamed , who has also directed and produced this gem wholeheartedly.
The story revolves around a poor attar seller (perfume seller) played by Salim Kumar (as Abu).Abu’s only unfulfilled dream in life is to make a Hajj pilgrimage for which he has to undertake many hardships, forming the crux of the story. Jury members said, “the movie was a lesson in holding strongly to human values and moreover it stood out for the fact that there was not much of a Hollywood inspiration that was clearly visible in the other entries.” The flicks Urumi, No One Killed Jessica and Adaminte Makan Abu made it to the final three with Adaminte Makan Abu reaching top-spot to leave others behind.
Here is the final 16 list from various regions across the country.
- Deiva Thirumagal,
- Adaminte Makan Abu
- No One Killed Jessica,
- 7 Khoon Maaf
- Chillar Party
- Dhobi Ghat

Moner Manush (Bengali), Alla Modalaindi (Telugu) and Mala Aai Vhhaychy (Marathi) were among the other entries.
Lead hero Salim Kumar known more for his comedy antics, will be looking forward to peak his fees for the hero’s role soon after he wins the Oscars (Yeah we want to bag more of ‘em) . All the best to the Adaminte Makan Abu team.
