Miss Mexico Jimena Navarrete, 22, was crowned Miss Universe 2010, beating off competition from 82 contestants including Miss India.
Navarrete, dressed in a flowing ruby red gown, impressed judges by highlighting the importance of teaching children about family values.
Although poised and graceful throughout the competition, Ms. Navarrete was at a literal loss for words when first asked for her reaction to winning, coming out with a heartfelt “I can’t think of anything, I’m blank… Sorry.” She was followed by Miss Jamaica Yendi Philips while Miss Australia Jenista Campbell was the second runner-up at the 59th annual pageant held here on Monday night.
Miss Ukraine Anna Poslavska took the fourth place while Miss Philippines Venus Raj rounded up the top five.
Miss India Ushoshi Sengupta, 21, from Kolkata did not make it to the top 15, neither did Miss USA, Rima Fakih, who had grabbed international headlines for being the first Muslim American to represent the US in the competition.

Navarrete was the first contestant to answer an interview question onstage during the big ceremony which was watched by millions of people in almost 200 countries.
Asked by Olympic gold-medal figure skater Evan Lysacek how she felt about unsupervised Internet use, Navarrete said the Internet is important but parents need to be careful and watch over their kids.
“I do belive that Intenet is an indispensable, necessary tool for the present time. We must be sure to teach them the values that we learned as a family”, she said.
Navarrete was the top scoring competitor in the evening gown component of the competition, and was the second-highest scorer in the swimsuit portion.
Navarrete replaces Miss Universe Stefania Fernandez of Venezuela who won the title in 2009. A model since 15, she is only the second Mexican after Lupita Jones(1991) to win Miss Univer title.
The Miss Universe 2010 is expected to spend her year as Miss Universe drawing attention to the plight of people with HIV/AIDS and breast cancer, according to pageant officials.
