Actor Ajith’s upcoming film ‘Mankatha’ has been awarded ‘U/A’ certificate by the Censors in Chennai. The film, which is said to be based on the ‘cricket-betting’ menace, has been eagerly awaited by the actor’s fans for more than one reason. Firstly, Ajit’s last release was ‘Asal’, which released more than an year back; secondly, ‘Mankatha’ is Ajith’s landmark 50th film in his career spanning more than 15 years.
Getting an ‘U/A’ certificate would obviously mean that the film won’t be satisfying the conditions laid down by the new regime at the State headed by Amma to qualify for getting ‘exemption’ from entertainment tax. The Censor Board officials reported expressed their appreciation that the film has been made in a ‘thoroughly enjoyable manner’.
Thankfully, the scissors of the Censors wasn’t put to use at any place in the film. Producer and distributor Gnanavel Raja, who has recently acquired the film’s distribution and release rights, has said that he’s quite happy to get away with the ‘U/A’ certification by censors. The film would be release in theatres as planned earlier, he said.
Venkatprabhu, who has directed Ajit for the first time in this film, has opined that the awarding of ‘U/A’ certificate to the film was fair and has asked Ajith’s fans to get ready to ‘receive’ a grand film. The film has music by Yuvan Shankar Raja and a huge star cast which includes ‘action king’ Arjun, Trisha, Lakshmi Rai, Anjali, Andrea and Kainaat.
