Madhavan not present at IIFA as to respect the sentiments of Tamils


Madhavan who played a powerful role in Mani Ratnam’s ‘Kannathil Muthamittal’, a film on the Sri Lankan issue, says, “I did it for the love of Mani, not politics.” And Madhavan is one of the multilingual actors who had skipped the International Indian Film Academy (IIFA) awards in Sri Lanka, after a demand was issued by various bodies of south Indian film industry.

Explaining the reason, the actor says he makes sure that he doesn’t do anything that hurts the sentiments of his Tamil fans. “There were a lot of messages on social networking sites asking me to stay away from IIFA this year,” he says.

At the same time, Maddy also clarifies he is not a political person. “I wouldn’t like to get into the politics of it. I was not present at the IIFA only to respect the sentiments of Tamils. I would do nothing to hurt them.

The actor, Madhavan, who hadn’t done a Tamil film for a while, is bouncing back with ‘Manmadhan Ambu’, the Kamal Haasan starrer.
