In a tragic incident, Nandana, the 8-year old daughter of noted playback singer K.S. Chitra, died at a swimming pool in Dubai where the singer had gone to perform at a musical extravaganza planned by A.R. Rahman.
Chitra, who got married 23 years ago, remained childless for 15 long years and was then blessed with the baby girl Nandana. The cute girl, who was managing very well despite some communication disorder, was brought up with lots of care and affection by Chitra, who would hardly stay away from her daughter.
Nandana’s lifeless body was flown into Chennai yesterday. Her untimely demise has not only shocked Chitra but has shaken up the entire film industry who thronged the playback singer’s Saligramam house in huge numbers to pay their floral tributes to the departed daughter. Uncontrollable sobbing was heard from almost everyone as tears welled up in their eyes. It was difficult to explain Chitra’s condition. No one could look at Chitra , she was broke down with sadness and had no tears left to shed.
Chitra’s cry of grief moved everyone who had assembled at her residence. Veteran playback singers P. Suseela, S. Janaki, S.P. Balasubramaniam, Mano and others were present and were seen weeping for the departed child. Janaki opined that it was very tragic and blessed that Chitra would soon have another baby which would bring happiness back into her life.
Nandana was cremated later in the day.
Let’s pray for the little soul to remain in eternal peace!
