One of India’s adorable looking cricketers- Rahul Dravid announced his retirement yesterday, Friday March 9th. The good words have been pouring in for the Indian batsman, as many from Kollywood too extended their wishes. Dravid came out with an official statement at a press conference in Banglaore, which came in at the right time for many while few felt it was a decision he should have taken long back.
Kollywood actor Siddharth who is enjoying his glory days debuting as a producer remarked, “A great lesson in dignity, humility and grace. Even in retirement, Rahul Dravid shows why he is a gift to the gentleman’s game. Godspeed!.” Holding numerous records including the first and only batsman to score a century in all ten Test playing nations and the world record for most number of catches in Test cricket totaling a 200, he also comes across as an outstanding fieldsmen in his 16 year career. It was Sourav Ganguly’s bold opinion that came hard on fans, as the former Indian captain opined, “I believe Rahul should have retired after the England series and not wait for the Australian tour. In any case this is a right decision and I saw it coming.” Dravid is the only batsmen to be involved in two 300 run partnerships in ODIs. The first was his memorable 318 partnership with Sourav Ganguly himself, and the second one being the 331 long run with Sachin Tendulkar. As to many, Kollywood actress Divya Spandana found Rahul as a true gentleman both on and off the field, saying, “I had interacted with Dravid during RCB & he was so humble and grounded. No frills no fluff, dedicated to his game & a genuinely nice person.”
Dravid’s retirement has definitely left a hole in the Indian ‘Wall’, as the No.3 spot will always be remembered for that patient batsman with his match winning knocks.
