Popular Malayalam actress Kavya Madhavan today filed a joint petition in Kerala high court with her husband seeking divorce. This was following after they reached an amicable settlement between them.
Kavya last year entered wedlock with Nischal Chandran, a Dubai-based banker. However, the actress very soon found herself on the brink of separation and divorce, alleging that her husband and in-laws were harassing her for dowry.
She returned to Kerala and filed a petition in the family court seeking divorce and another petition in the Ernakulam First Class Magistrate court against her husband and in-laws under the Domestic Violence Act for causing mental stress.
Earlier, Nischal Chandran had filed a petition in the Kerala High court requested the court to quash the dowry harassment complaint filed by the actress that mediatory efforts were on to settle the issue and to file a joint divorce petition. The court had dismissed it as no evidence in this regard had been produced.
However, the two came to the family court here separately today and attended court proceedings and informed the court that the divorce was with mutual consent. Kavya has also decided to withdraw a police case against her husband for domestic violence.
Meanwhile, the actress is in her second innings in films now, doing movies one after the other. She did ‘Paappi Appacha’ and ‘Christian Brothers’. She has started work for ‘Bhakthajanangalude Shradhaykku’, directed by Priyanandanan and is also set to play the title role in ‘Gaddama’, a film directed by Kamal which is based on life of Malayalees working in the Gulf.
