Karthika, daughter of yesteryear’s heroine Radha, is all set to make her debut in Tamil films as heroine with the release of ‘Ko’ this Friday opposite Jiiva. The film has been directed by cinematographer K.V. Anand and would be his third directorial venture after ‘Kanaa Kandein’ and the Suriya-Tamannaah starrer ‘Ayan’.
Comparisons are inevitable but unjustified at this stage, feels Karthika. Her mother Radha was the leading heroine for over a decade and had acted against the likes of Sivaji Ganesan, Rajnikanth, Kamal Haasan and Sathyaraj. Karthika is quite aware of the expectations from her fans and has asked them to give her time to establish herself.
She would also be debuting in Malayalam next week with the release of ‘Makara Manju’, which also marks the acting debut of noted cinematographer-turned-director Santosh Sivan. Does she feel tense as to how the future would be in the backdrop of back-to-back debuting films in Tamil and Malayalam?
“Absoulutely not,” assures Karthika and says that it’s here where her academics come in to play. “Being a management student, the first lessons I had been taught were to stay cool and relaxed irrespective of the situation. I’m also a big fan of our ‘Captain Cool’ Dhoni after watching his performance as a player and as a captain in the just-concluded World Cup.
“As such, I don’t feel tense at all. My role of Renuka, an investigative journalist, in the film has come out very well. Even my mother ‘regretted’ she couldn’t get such a role in her long career. Both Anand Sir and Jiiva were of great help during the making of the film. I hope the audience accept me and include me in their list of favourite heroines,” concludes Karthika.
Yes, of course!
