Actress Karthika debuted as heroine in Tamil films opposite Jiiva in last year’s super-duper hit film Ko directed by K.V. Anand. The film, which had both Jiiva and Karthika playing journalists of a different kind, turned out to be a mega-hit venture. Piaa Bajpai, who played the second heroine in the film, also benefited through the film’s success and landed up many offers in her kitty.
Jiiva, thanks to the super-hit film, got offers to star in leading directors like Shankar and Gautham Menon. Karthika, on the other hand, hasn’t been spotted in any film on-screen despite more than an year of the release of Ko in theatres. The tall and slimly built Karthika, daughter of Radha, one of the most successful heroines of yesteryear, says that she does exercise her option in choosing her roles.
Last year, Karthika was roped in by veteran director Bharathiraaja to play the lead role in his upcoming film Annakodiyum Kodiveeranum. The film also had actor-director Ameer and actress Ineya playing prominent roles. Later, it turned out that Ameer was out of the project. The film is progressing, though, with uncertainty looming large as to who would step into Ameer’s shoes.
Karthika doesn’t appear to be in any hurry and hasn’t gone on a signing spree. She says she needs a heavy and substantial role in films and won’t compromise on it. In fact, repors say that she demands that she needs an equally important role as the hero of the film. This demand is considered ‘too much’ for a heroine who has delivered just a solitary hit; even that film didn’t have her as the solo heroine.
She is presently cast opposite Vikram Prabhu (son of actor Prabhu) in a remake of Sattam Oru Iruttarai, a Vijaykanth hit film of the early eighties. Karthika has reportedly refused offers to star in Malayalm films, despite being a Malayalee girl. She says she’s happy with her Tamil and Telgu film projects.
