Remember Kamalini Mukherjee, who debuted in Tamil films as heroine opposite Kamal Haasan in Gautham Vasudev Menon’s Vettaiyadu Vilaiyadu? Though she played a brief role in the film as Kamal’s wife and starred in a solitary yet popular duet song in the film, Kamalini didn’t fail to earn fans in Tamil Nadu. Her smile and the natural stylish looks endeared her to her fans and movie-goers.
However, she didn’t have any release except for Kaadhalna Summa Illai opposite Sharvanand and Ravi Krishna which released in 2008. After debuting in Bollywood in 2004, Kamalini has starred in many Telugu films so far and is still busy in Telugu as one of the frontline actress. The Bengali babe has somehow learnt and mastered the nuances of uttering the dialogues in Telugu and in ensuring that her lip-sync doesn’t go awry.
In between, she starred in Malayalam and Kannada films too. When queried as to what was the reason behind her long absence from Tamil films, the lovely-looking Kamalini said, “I have been waiting for the right offer in Tamil. As and when it comes my way, I’m ready to lap it up. Presently, I’m doing a film in Telugu directed by veteran K. Raghavendra Rao. All these years, I have been waiting to star in at least one film directed by him.
“I’m quite happy now that I’ve got an opportunity to work under him. The film is likely to go to the floors by end-January. For a long time, I was also itching to star in Bengali films. It’s strange that though Bengali is my mother-tongue, I haven’t starred in many Bengali films as compared to other language films. In fact, it was not that I wasn’t getting offers to star in Bengali films; I was only waiting for a suitable script.
“I have now been offered an excellent role in an upcoming Bengali film Aparajitha Tumi. I hope this would pave way for establishing me in Bengali films as well,” says Kamalini.
