Kamban Kazhagam, Bharathiyar Sangam and Tamil Mozhi Academy in association with other Tamil organizations held a memorial gathering for eminent poet and writer Soundara Kailasam who passed away on October 18.
Soundara Kailasam was the mother-in-law of Union Home Minister P. Chidambaram. She has published poetry collections, essays and short stories. And works have also been published in a number of Tamil magazines, in addition to being printed as a book.
Actor Rajnikanth who remembers his association with the poet informed the audience that Tamil Maanila Congress (TMC) was her interest .He also mentioned he himself was one amongst those who attended the meeting during the times when the party was in race for the 1996 Assembly elections headed by late leader G K Moopanar.
While Kamal Haasan felt blessed being associated with her and added “if not as a well-known actor, he would have attended as a dancer since it was Soundara Kailasam who was one of the two chief guests who blessed him on his arangetram.”
The event brought back many a memories for the actors.
“We appreciate both actors in taking out their precious time for such events that aid spreading Tamil poetry to a wider audience.”
