Actress Jayachitra is all set to play the real life character of Amma, Tamil Nadu’s dynamic chief minister, in an upcoming film titled Vanayudhdham. The film is based on the life of the slain sandalwood poacher Veerappan, who remained a ‘terror’ to the forest officials and the police force of both Karnataka and Tamil Nadu for many years. The bilingual film is being made simultaneously in both Tamil and Kannada.
AMR Ramesh, who has made films like Kuppi and Kaavalar Kudiyiruppu, is directing Vanayudhdham. The crew of the popular tele-serial Sandhanakaadu which was beamed on Makkal TV is working with Ramesh in the making of Vanayudhdham. The film has a huge star cast with the versatile Kishore playing Veerappan and actress Vijayalakshmi playing his wife Muthulakshmi.
Readers might recall that Veerappan was killed by a special task force led by the then DGP Vijayakumar during the previous tenure of chief-ministership of Amma more than three years back. Ramesh zeroed in on Jayachitra, who had paired up opposite the likes of Kamal Haasan and Rajinikanth in many movies in the late-seventies, to play Amma as her complexion and appearance matched that of the chief minister in more than one ways.
‘Action King’ Arjun plays the cop Vijayakumar while Yogi Devaraj plays Veerappan’s father. Ravi Kale plays another cop Senthamaraikannan. Veteran Bollywood actor Suresh Oberoi has been drafted in to play the late Kannada actor Rajkumar in the film. It may also be recalled that Rajkumar was once abducted by Veerappan and remained in the poacher’s custody for several months.
In all, the film is likely to enthrall the viewers in both the States who have suffered heavily at the hands of the late Veerappan.
