Music composer James Vasanthan who was arrested on July 4 (Sunday) based on the complaint filed by his neighbour Radha Venuprasad(64) has been remanded in custody for 13 days and lodged at Puzhal prison .
Neelankarai police had arrested the musician under the Sections, 294 (b) (obscene language), 341 (punishment for wrongful restraint) and Section 4 of Tamil Nadu Prevention of Women Harassment Act of the Indian Penal Code, as Radha had claimed that he had verbally abused her and had shown indecent gestures towards her.
He was produced before a court of Judicial Magistrate in Alandur on Monday and magistrate Vidhya remanded him in custody without plea until a new hearing date on August 16. Reportedly James Vasanthan has sought anticipatory bail from the high court.
This is the second complaint by Radha, against James Vasanthan, her previous complaint him was filed on April 1, 2011. (Read more here).
On her complaint, she had mentioned that James Vasanthan who was driving his car, verbally abused her with swear words, when the car in which she was travelling stopped very suddenly with a screech next to his.
James Vasanthan who denied Radha’s all allegations, has accused that the Police had acted promptly on Radha’s complaint because both the city commissioner George and she hail from the same state, Kerala.
Meanwhile Pattali Makkal Katchi president Dr. Ramadoss has made a demand to the court to release the music director on immediate effect.
We are left wondering why none of the music directors nor any film fraternity from Kollywood have come forward to register their opposition, when their co-musician has been arrested, with no prima facie evidence for the case.
