‘Manmadha Rani’ Chaya Singh hasn’t been able to find the right roles and the right films. Despite her good looks and acting prowess aided by a decent enough figure, Chaya wasn’t busy in films. Her last release in Tamil was last year’s thriller ‘Ananthapurathu Veedu’ opposite Nanda.

As many before her have done, Chaya has found a fairly easy entry into the world of small screen as she has signed up to play the lead role in a tele-serial for a popular television channel. Titled ‘Nagamma’, the serial would deal with the time-tested way of worship of the snake by the people and how the ‘Goddess of Snakes’ (Naagamma) controls people’s lives.

Debuting in films with the successful ‘Thirudaa Thirudaa’ opposite Dhanush more than six years back, Chaya starred in many movies afterwards. In between playing lead roles, she also managed to appear in one-song numbers with Vijay in ‘Tirupachi’ and with Vikram in ‘Arul’. She counted a lot on ‘Vallamai Tharaayo’, her major film opposite Parthiban, which didn’t fare at the box-office as well as expected.

Speaking about her foray into television, Chaya was candid enough to admit that though she had planned to venture into the small screen, it had occurred ‘far too early’ than she had planned. “I agreed to do Nagamma as the script was fantastic and had scope for me to experiment in a role I haven’t done before in any of my films,” says Chaya.

The talented Chaya is also starring frequently in Bengali and Oriya language films. She is also directing a Bangali film at present, it is reliably learnt!
