Diminutive A.R. Murugadoss is one of the most sought-after directors in Kollywood. The director became an over-night ‘superstar’ after directing Aamir Khan and Asin in the Hindi version of ‘Ghajini’, which turned out to be a colossal hit. He is now back in Kollywood and is about to complete the shooting schedule of ‘7aam Arivu, his next venture starring Suriya and Shruti Haasan in the lead.
The director has also floated his own production house and has completed producing his first film in association with Hollywood’s Box-Star Productions. The audio-launch of the film ‘Engeyum Eppodhum’ starring Jai and Anjali in the lead was held in the city yesterday.
“I’m not here to make money alone; my aim is to create as many talented directors as possible,” he said.
“I came here several years back with nobody to help me out. Today, I have an army of friends,” said Murugadoss while speaking at the audio-launch. The film has been directed by Saravanan, an erstwhile assistant of Murugadoss and has music by C. Sathya. Actor Suriya and music director Harris Jayaraj took part in the event as ‘special invitees’.
“I want to pay something back to the society which has made me a prominent figure in the entertainment industry. I’d strive to hard to make as many successful films and would be introducing talented directors in my films. My association with Box Star is for this purpose only. I’d be happy to make small budget films starring newcomers and full of quality,” he said.
Suriya said that the film was almost like ‘his own film’ and wished the film a ‘rousing reception’ at the box-office. He also appealed to more and more Hollywood production houses to venture into making Tamil films.
